NASS is designed to introduce students throughout the nation to USNA including under-represented areas around the country. 2. Applying for NASS also serves as a Preliminary Application for the Class of 2017. Attendance at NASS in no way guarantees an Offer of Appointment to USNA and conversely not being selected for NASS will in no way hinder a candidate's chances for admission. 3. There will be three sessions held on the following days: June 2 - June 7, June 9 - June 14, June 16 - June 21. The Naval Academy Summer Stem application will be available online for students entering 8th -11th grades on January 17th, 2012 at 0001. Grade level 8th and 9th: June 4 - June 9 Grade level 10th: June 11 - June 16 Grade level 11th: June 18 -June 23 Sneek Peek Overnight Visit Program at UT-KnoxvilleEnrolling a diverse freshmen class is one of the key goals at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and achieving that goal begins with their recruitment efforts. This spring they have several diversity recruitment programs, and the first is the Sneak Peek Overnight Visit Program on Friday and Saturday February 24-25.
Any interested minority high school juniors should register for this program. Students may register online at: http://admissions.utk.edu/sneakpeek. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible to attend. Space is limited, and students will be selected to participate based on their date of registration and academic information. Open House for Pellissippi State Community College - Blount County CampusPellissippi State Community College’s Blount County Campus will be hosting an Open House on Thursday, February 16th from 4pm-6pm. Information available will include admissions, financial aid, services for students with disabilities, dual enrollment, degree offerings at Blount, and non-credit/continuing education. Campus tours will also be offered. The BLOUNT COUNTY CAMPUS is located at 2731 West Lamar Alexander Parkway. UT College of Veterinary Medicine Summer ProgramApplications are being reviewed for the UT Veterinary Medicine Summer Experience Program. The program takes place from June 4 - July 27, 2012 with most of the time spent in a student's home town and one week spent on the UT campus. This program is open to all juniors and seniors and is extremely competitive. For complete details, stop in to the Guidance Office. RIT Spirit Writing ContestFor 10th -12th grade students who are deaf or hard of hearing are encouraged to apply for the RIT Spirit Writing Contest. There will be up to six winners- two 10th graders, two 11th graders and two 12th graders. Interested students should visit www.rit.edu/NTID/WritingContest for more information.
NFIB Young Entrepreneur FoundationYoung Entrepreneurs who are graduating high school seniors are eligible to receive a 2012 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award from the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation. ACT Test Prep WorkshopsWe are excited to introduce a new ACT Prep program at Lenoir City High School. This free workshop is available to current students, as well as, LCHS graduates. There will be four sessions covering different material. Be sure to attend each session.
ACT scores are commonly used for college admission and scholarship consideration. Test prep programs may help increase overall scores by offering a structured presentation of test taking strategies adapted to available knowledge of the current ACT.
As you may already know, the Tennessee legislature passed a law (TCA 49-6-6001) which mandates all juniors to take a state ACT in their school environment in March.

ACT high school poster contest kicks offACT kicks off its annual high school student poster design contest starting Monday, Dec. 5. Winning entries will win thousands of dollars in scholarship money. Students may design and submit posters using visual designs, artwork and tag lines that promote the value of college and the ACT test. Participants must be U.S. high school students who plan to apply for 2012 or 2013 admission to a U.S. two-year or four-year institution. The student with the winning design will receive a $5,000 scholarship to the college of his or her choice. In addition, the winning design will be used on the poster printed to display ACT test dates during the 2012—2013 school year and distributed to high schools nationwide. Second- and third-place winners will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships, respectively.
Winners will be selected based on creativity, visual appeal and overall impact. The official entry form and poster must be postmarked between Dec. 5, 2011, and Jan 28, 2012. Winners will be announced in March 2012. Contest details will become available at the end of the month at actstudent.org/postercontest Scholarship Opportunities for 2011-2012Scholarships are beginning to become available for the 2011-2012 school year.
